OUTSpoken is a groundbreaking program that trains parents and allies to speak about family equality. OUTSpoken is:

  • fundamentally shifting the way our families are talked about and treated in the media, in our communities and by our politicians by raising awareness about both the existence of and the struggle of our families.

  • arming thousands of LGBTQ parents and their allies with the information to speak to their co-workers, school officials, faith leaders, legislators and the media in their own communities not only with passion, but with authority and credible, indisputable information.
  • countering the vitriolic misinformation campaign being waged by the fundamentalist right with credible social science research, reliable facts and our own stories.
  • protecting our children by creating safe schools that both understand and support the vast variety of family structures.

To join OUTSpoken, fill out your speaker’s profile, and get your free, comprehensive Speaker’s Toolkit. OUTSpoken families have made the commitment to speak about the need for full family equality at least 8 times per year in their community; this could be to their extended family over Thanksgiving dinner, their faith community on the weekend or a town hall forum full of seniors. We are committed to taking every opportunity possible to make our families visible and our needs understood!

This incredible grassroots, word-of-mouth movement is making a profound difference already. By using our exclusive OUTSpoken Families Speaker’s Toolkit and staying on track by using our once-a-week tool, our families are already out in their communities, telling their family stories, answering questions, being visible and are ultimately on the front lines changing hearts and minds throughout America.

number of OUTSpoken Trainings planned for 2008.

Speaking to large groups (i.e., school boards, church communities) is important, but don't pass up on opportunities to talk about family equality with smaller groups of people (i.e., friends, family, neighbors, doctors, etc.). Talk about the importance of family equality at your next family gathering!
