Family Equality Council Releases Legal Guide for LGBTQ Families in Partnership with Gender Justice Nevada
Family Equality Council and Gender Justice Nevada are pleased to release a new legal guide for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) families living in Nevada. This resource provides sex/gender diverse and LGBTQ-headed families with detailed and accessible explanations of the current status of federal and state, including recognition of same-sex marriages, parental rights, adoption, applying for documentation for children, nondiscrimination protections, school policies, healthcare, parental leave, and more. The guide also includes a list of legal documents it is recommended that all LGBTQ families secure in order to ensure their rights and wishes are respected.
Department of Justice “License to Discriminate” Guidance Released, Placing Millions of LGBTQ Americans at Risk
Family Equality Council strongly condemns new guidance issued by the Department of Justice today that grants a broad “license to discriminate” to federal agencies, contractors, and grantees, placing millions of LGBTQ Americans and their families at risk.
In a memo published yesterday, the Department of Justice takes the dramatic step of formally reversing federal government policy established by the Obama Administration stating that transgender workers are protected from workplace discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. This memo provides further evidence of the all-out assault on existing protections for LGBTQ people from the Department of Justice, under the leadership of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and with the blessing of the Trump Administration.

Family Equality Council Condemns Trump Administration Decision to Cancel DACA, Placing Lives of Immigrant Youth at Risk
Ending DACA will devastate the lives of 800,000 brave young adults who are currently working, attending school, and contributing to American society. The threat posed to LGBTQ “dreamers” is compounded by the intersection of their undocumented status and their LGBTQ identity. These 75,000 young adults are now facing deportation, often to countries where they have never set foot, and where their lives may be at risk.
