On Wednesday, June 17, President Obama signed a Presidential Memorandum extending certain benefits to same-sex couples working for the Federal Government, the largest employer in the U.S.

While a step in the right direction, these benefits do not answer our call for equality. Their reach is limited--both in terms of who can benefit from them and what kinds of benefits can be offered through this action. To ensure full equality for LGBT people and families, the President and Congress need to repeal DOMA, pass legislation that ends discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, and include LGBT families in broader efforts, such as comprehensive healthcare reform.

Tell the President and Congress that the pro-equality actions they've taken so far are a step in the right direction but far from enough. They need to hear from you what it means to you and your family to have access to healthcare providers that understand your family. They need you to tell them what it means to fill out official government documents that don't reflect your family make-up. They need you to tell them what it means to your children when teachers tell them they can't talk about their LGBT parent(s) because it's inappropriate for school.

Tell the President what your family needs now and we'll make sure the message gets delivered. As the national organization working to ensure equality by telling your stories, we need you to stand in partnership with us to make your voices heard.
