Today is the 10th annual International Transgender Day of Remembrance, commemorating the lives of transgender people lost to anti-transgender violence over the past year.
Advocates have counted more than 50 transgender people killed already in 2008. Organizers of the Day of Remembrance are guided by this thought:
“Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.” — Santayana
Please honor the transgender and gender-noncomforming people in our community who face incredible odds and obstacles in being their true selves. Observe a moment of silence, then take action. You can find resources here:
