The Family Equality Council’s
National Awards Dinner
The 2008 National Awards Dinner was an event to remember as Family Equality Council supporters from all over the West Coast came together at such a critical time in the fight to maintain marriage equality in California. Guests heard from Ember Cook, the Family Equality Council staff member on loan to the No on Prop 8: Equality for All campaign as a Family Organizer, about our work with coalition partners to ensure that families are given the support they need to be able to plug into the campaign. Special guest and Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon underlined the importance of family work as she told her own story of coming out to her children and introducing them to her partner Christine. That night, we also recognized the contributions of HBO and The Pop Luck Club as important partners in the movement for full family equality. Finally, Executive Director Jennifer Chrisler reflected on the incredible progress we made together as a community in 2008 and outlined a vision for moving into 2009. The generous contributions of our supporters gathered at the National Awards Dinner will help ensure that Family Equality Council has the resources it needs to make that vision a reality.
