Family Equality Council serves as a national coordinator between families with parents who are LGBTQ and the local groups that support them. We know that often the best contacts and sources of support for families come from within communities. Family Equality Council embraces the power of collaboration because we believe that working in coalition to build movements is the only way to accomplish lasting social change.
The Parent Groups and Partners we work with are community-run networks of LGBTQ-headed families and resource providers – some are designed to support specific communities and some have a regional or national focus. Historically, Parent Groups have been locally-based, striving to create safe and inclusive environments for their area LGBTQ parents and families, while providing supports such as educational conversations and social meet-ups. With the advent of social media, we are seeing many Groups move to online platforms.
Whether in-person or online, at the heart of the work of all Parent Groups and Community Partners is their commitment to support our families - to connect them, laugh together, discuss shared challenges, offering help and resources.
