birthday partying for equality

I arrived back at the campsite for the first time since the initial
set up and was amazed to return to happy faces and a cheerful
campfire (made out of a candle—use your imagination on that
one).  Despite the cold and the light snow that started falling (I
swear I heard yells of excitement when that happened) we just had a
birthday party here on the Ellipse.  Our lovely co-worker is
camping out for equality on his birthday and in return he is
receiving chocolate cake (cut with the smallest plastic knife
you’ve ever seen) and a loud, decidedly impressive chorus of
happy birthday. Little does he know that the birthday singing has
just begun (shhh, don’t tell).
