Next Steps for LGBTQ Families After the Election

On Wednesday November 30, our Policy Team hosted a conference call to answer some of the questions that many LGBTQ families are asking following this month’s election results. The call was recorded, and you can listen to the recording in full below. Our CEO, Stan Sloan, introduced and moderated the discussion, and questions were answered by Director of State Policy Denise Brogan-Kator and Senior Policy Counsel Shelbi Day. Some topics covered include:

  • Is the Supreme Court’s ruling on marriage equality safe?
  • Should couples in a same-sex partnership or civil union rush to get married?
  • What documents should LGBTQ couples have in place to ensure their wishes are respected?
  • How can LGBTQ families best secure parent-child relationships?

We will be hosting a follow-up conference call in January, focusing specifically on helping our children navigate the changing climate as they return to school after the winter break. We will be joined by a panel of experts who will share ways for us to stay engaged in the movement, and focus on empowering our children as members of LGBTQ families. The call is scheduled for Wednesday January 11, 2017, 2pm – 3pm ET. If you would like to attend, click here to register and receive the call-in details.
