Family outside on bleachers

Family Equality exists to create a world where everyone can experience the unconditional love, safety, and belonging of family.

In 2023, more than 550 anti-LGBTQ+ bills were filed in states across the country. But here’s the good news:

We’ve defeated hundreds of these bills thanks to the hard work of passionate advocates and organizations like Family Equality. With your help, we can tackle whatever 2024 has in store!

LGBTQ+ people are raising children and seeking to become parents in every state.

Future and existing LGBTQ+ families span geography, socio-economic status, faiths, race and ethnicities, abilities – about every intersection of identities.  And yet, our families face countless barriers from the doctor’s office to the classroom and everything in between.

Nearly 20 million American adults identify as LGBTQ+. Our 2019 research shows that nearly 3.8 million LGBTQ+ millennials are considering expanding their families, and we know 3.7 million youth are being raised by LGBTQ+ parents.

We need to ensure that they have the information and resources necessary to address the financial, legal, and social hurdles they face in forming and sustaining their families.

Learn More About Our Work

13 States allow adoption & foster care agencies to turn away qualified LGBTQ+ parents.

This state-sanctioned discrimination reduces the number of homes available to the more than 400,000 youth in foster care and imposes significant dignitary harm on LGBTQ+ families.

1 in 3 youth in foster care identify as LGBTQ+.

We promote the best interests of all children in the child welfare system by fighting for the passage of the John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act, which prohibits discrimination against LGBTQ+ youth and prospective parents.

72% of LGBTQ+ people say they are more likely to support pro-LGBTQ+ companies.

Our community is diverse, digitally engaged, and intentional about the businesses they support. With your help, we are poised to achieve great things going forward.
