Jay Paul Deratany

Jay Paul Deratany is the founder of The Deratany Firm, specializing in cases involving medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, adoption & foster care negligence, and personal injury. He is a playwright, too: His GLAAD-nominated play “Haram Iran” and his Jeff Award-winning musical “The CiviliTy of Albert Cashier” were staged in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. He has also written two feature films: “Saugatuck Cures” starring Max Adler and “Foster Boy,” starring Matthew Modine.
In addition to joining the Family Equality Board of Directors in 2019, Deratany has served on numerous boards, including Howard Brown Health, Chicago House, and Perspectives Charter Schools.
Deratany lives with his husband Curt Smith in Chicago, IL.
