CLAY AIKEN, CONSTANTINE MAROULIS AND BROADWAY STARS TO SHINE SPOTLIGHT ON FAMILY EQUALITY COUNCIL AT NIGHT AT THE PIER
Stars Will Celebrate 30th Anniversary of LGBT Family Movement
Washington, DC – (Apr. 24, 2012) – Recording star Clay Aiken and fellow American Idol alum Constantine Maroulis are among the stars scheduled to perform on May 8 at Family Equality Council’s Night at the Pier celebration in New York City.
This year, Night at the Pier will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Family Equality Council’s work to connect, support and represent the one million lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) parents who are raising two million children in our country today.
Aiken, currently featured on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, and Maroulis, will also be joined by Broadway stars including Montego Glover who was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role in the musical Memphis.
Family Equality Council Executive Director said the organization honored Aiken in 2009 and is pleased to have him return to the Night at the Pier event in honor of the organization’s milestone celebration.
“Clay is not only a dynamic performer but a wonderful dad and a passionate advocate for our families,” said Chrisler. “We couldn’t be more thrilled that he is helping us shine a spotlight on our three decades of work to ensure that all families – including those with parents who are LGBT – are recognized, respected and protected.”
Honorees will include acclaimed producer Daryl Roth for her long-standing support of the LGBT community and her brave and tireless efforts in bringing the 2011 Tony Award-winning production of The Normal Heart to Broadway audiences last spring. Scott Davenport will be honored for his enduring support of the Family Equality Council and fierce advocacy work on behalf of LGBT parents and their children.
