Family Equality Council: Senate Must Halt Kavanaugh Confirmation Process; Investigate Sexual Assault Allegations

WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Today Family Equality Council calls on the Senate Judiciary Committee to immediately halt the Supreme Court confirmation process for President Trump’s nominee while the sexual assault allegation against Brett Kavanaugh is thoroughly investigated. Following Christine Blasey Ford’s decision to speak publicly today, Family Equality Council CEO Rev. Stan J. Sloan issued the following statement:

“We applaud Professor Ford’s bravery in sharing her story, and we demand that the Senate take these allegations seriously. It is critical that we learn from the mistakes of the past — in particular, the treatment of Anita Hill — and that Professor Ford is treated with the dignity and respect she deserves. Sexual assault should disqualify anyone from serving as a judge, let alone serving on the Supreme Court. We demand that the Senate Judiciary Committee halt Kavanaugh’s confirmation process immediately while these allegations are investigated, in addition to releasing Kavanaugh’s full record, as the American public has been demanding for months.”
