NEW MEXICO SUPREME COURT ISSUES UNANIMOUS RULING ON MARRIAGE EQUALITY
RULING IS ENORMOUS WIN FOR ALL NEW MEXICO FAMILIES

Washington DC – Dec. 19, 2013 – Family Equality Council, the national organization that represents the three million parents in our country who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) and their six million children issued the following statement on today’s landmark ruling by the New Mexico Supreme Court in favor of marriage equality on equal protection grounds.

“This is a historic victory for families all over New Mexico,” said Executive Director Gabriel Blau. “There are over 1,000 parents raising approximately 2,000 children in New Mexico who can now breathe a little bit easier knowing that their family is more equal and more secure. Today’s ruling affirms what the millions of American families with LGBTQ parents already know – that eventually love and fairness will triumph. Family Equality Council is committed to achieving the same level of equality in all aspects of the lives of working families across the United States, and this is a gigantic leap forward to that end.”
